Metabolic Hyperactivity of the Medial Posterior Parietal Lobes in Psychogenic Tremor

چکیده

BACKGROUND The pathophysiology of psychogenic movement disorders, including psychogenic tremor (PT), is only emerging. CASE REPORT This is a single case report of a patient who met diagnostic criteria for PT. He underwent positron emission tomography (PET) of brain with 18F-deoxyglucose at resting state. His PET study showed symmetrically increased 18F-deoxyglucose uptake in both posterior medial parietal lobes. There was no corresponding abnormality on structural imaging. DISCUSSION Hypermetabolism of the medial aspects of posterior parietal lobes bilaterally may reflect abnormal activity of sensory integration that is important in the pathogenesis of PT. This further supports the idea that non-organic movement disorders may be associated with detectable functional brain abnormalities.

Psychogenic amnesia and self-identity: a multimodal functional investigation.

BACKGROUND Patients with psychogenic amnesia generally suffer from episodic memory deficits associated with an impairment of self-identity. While the first is generally attributed to limbic dysfunction, the latter might be related to posterior parietal cortex. Macrostructural Alterations of Subcortical Grey Matter in Psychogenic Erectile Dysfunction

Psychogenic erectile dysfunction (ED) has been defined as the persistent inability to attain and maintain an erection sufficient to permit sexual performance. It shows a high incidence and prevalence among men, with a significant impact on the quality of life. Few neuroimaging studies have investigated the cerebral basis of erectile dysfunctions observing the role played by prefrontal, cingulat...

Abnormal Regional Homogeneity in Patients with Essential Tremor Revealed by Resting-State Functional MRI

Essential tremor (ET) is one of the most common movement disorders in human adults. It can be characterized as a progressive neurological disorder of which the most recognizable feature is a tremor of the arms or hands that is apparent during voluntary movements such as eating and writing. The pathology of ET remains unclear. Resting-state fMRI (RS-fMRI), as a non-invasive imaging technique, wa...
